« Les îles Vanille »
To be stronger together and to reinforce the weight and visibility of the islands of the Indian Ocean, the representatives of the tourist offices of the Indian Ocean zone agreed on the label « Les Iles Vanille » during a meeting in the Chamber Trade and Industry of Réunion on 4 August 2010. The concept emphasizes on the building of links and exploits the synergy between the islands of the Indian Ocean by the creation of tourist combines that promote inter-island exchanges. In July 2012, the main leaders of the members of the islands gathered to create the Vanilla Islands Organization (VIO) association whose objective is the tourist development of the Indian Ocean area and will sit in Reunion Island. This association, funded mainly by the European Union, will have the possibility and the means to design actions on a large scale.
